My favorite picks: Shyamal and Bhumika Men’s collection!

Its about time I write something about the grooms or I might loose on the readers :P:P So here are my favorite picks from the Shyamal & Bhumika collection for the groom’s outfit. I am sure you read our previous post on the Groom’s wedding dress http://wp.me/p2T1CS-gk . The groom’s now a days have become more aware of fashion and the latest trends surfacing in the fashion world where the sherwanis are concerned.  The intricate designs and the work on the Sherwanis is almost as heavy as bridal lehengas these days. The colors have changed from traditional golden to more velvet’s,blues and reds etc. Groom’s like to experiment. Matching the sherwani with the color of the bridal lehenga still is one of the ongoing trends, more concepts are flowing in. We intend to update you with all that we know ! Till then this post belongs to Shyamal and Bhumika’s Men’s collection!

Sold out to the sale!

Its monsoon and the sale time is here. Since I already spent big bucks yesterday I thought I would jot down some important do’s and don’s while shopping in the sale. The very thought of sale shopping is rejuvenating. Anything at the cost lower than the printed one is always welcome to anybody. Who does not like saving. Remember we gave you a list of to do’s while shopping for the black Friday sale? Refer all of that and brush-up your sale shopping skills. Along with that remember the following in order to help you avoid all that you don’t wan to end up buying!Sold out to the sale.

DO:

  • Stock up on winter collections as the weather next is appropriate. Woolens are always expensive to buy retail. So sale is the appropriate time to stock up on that.
  • Go buy all the footwear that you have your eyes on.
  • Expensive high-end bags are a great bargain if you go sale shopping. ( I am suffering from serious post shopping guilt in this department on my recent purchase 😛 😛 )
  • Spending on denims during sale shopping is also a great idea. Even if the trends change a decent pair of denim wouldn’t really hurt.
  • Household decor items are also to look out for when you are shopping during the sale.
  • Furnishings like Bed-covers, Bath linens are again some important items that you could or you would wanna spend on.
  •  Electronics items which you have been keeping on hold since a long time.

DON’T :

  • Buy cosmetics as much tempting as it is. You cannot guarantee the expiry date. There is a possibility of products being very near to the expiry date.
  • Buy neon colors , since are so much in fashion these days it may tempt you. But they aren’t here to stay long. It may be a possibility that 3 months later you may regret buying so many neon’s after all!
  • Buy too many leather items. Remember its monsoon time after all.
  • Buy footwear which you plan to use this season and aren’t weather appropriate.
  • Forget to check your bill the percentage discount and any discrepancy where product guarantee is concerned.

Happy shopping.

South Indian Brides and Silk Sarees!!

We told you a lot about the Lehengas and the Ghagras and the north Indian weddings. Time to travel to the south! So here’s bringing information about what is worn by Bride in South Indian weddings.

silk sarees and draping         Let me tell you guys that in South India, weddings simplicity rules! The main focus in the South Indian wedding is on the wedding dress. Unlike other parts of India, where brides flaunt their lehengas in South Indian weddings you can see a large variety of Silk Sarees or “Pattu” Sarees. The silk comes from the cocoon of the silk worm and requires a great deal of handling and processing before it becomes your wedding dress. This makes it one of the most expensive fibers also.

It is a tradition to wear silk sarees as your wedding dress in south Indian weddings. The price of these sarees varies from 1000 INR to lakhs depending on the quality and the amount of silk used in the saree. In any south Indian wedding, the bride needs to wear a number of sarees during various rituals apart from the main wedding saree.

In some parts of south India like Karnataka and Maharashtra the bride wears a Nauvari silk saree along with green glass bangles with traditional gold during the wedding ceremony, whereas in Kerala ivory n gold combination is considered auspicious. In Tamil Nadu the saree is draped in a very different manner (Madirasi style). Whatever the color combination or style is, the quality of a bridal silk saree is excellent with sarees woven from the excellent quality of silk. Kanchipuram silks and Mysore silks two world-renowned names in this business.

The North Indian culture & style have influenced the south Indian weddings too. Unlike earlier times, modern south Indian brides prefer designer wedding sarees, lehengas, cholis, salwars etc during their pre and post marriage functions like engagements, haldi , receptions etc. In fact some places they have introduced baraat (well with all entertainment)!

Theknotstory tip:

How to identify pure silk saree:

Take a few threads from the wrap and weft of the saree and burn them. If a very tiny ash ball is left behind which smells like burnt hair, its pure silk.

So, happy Wedding shopping 🙂

Breaking news : Madhuri’s Ghagra !!

“TV pe breaking news haaye re mera ghagra haaye

Baghdad se leke Delhi via Agra”

(For non-indian readers link to the song on youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IS8yw3NV60)

Madhuris ghagra14

Madhuri’s New item song takes my heart away. She’s gorgeous and her dance mar jawa 😛 I am so keen on meeting her and asking her about the secret to looking like that in that age. Okay I know I am diverting myself entirely from the topic but then its Madhuri dixit you know !! 😛

Now let me tell you the connection of this item number (dance based song in indian movies ) and our wedding blog. Common I am talking about ghagras (lehengas)!! Let me tell you people this song is like a treasure hunt reward if you are about to get married. So many beautiful ghagras and a variety of color combinations and net and sequin lehengas. The background dancers boast of different and offbeat color combos in the borders and the lehenga, with a simple and awesome done duppata. If not getting the same lehenga/ghagra you sure learn what colors are in trend and what you can mix up to get the latest looks. What is unique is no dancer repeats  a color combination. So suit your taste and get ideas!!!  P.S My favorite is the golden one Madhuri wears! Manish Malhotra has always been my favourite with the bling !!

“Wikipedia.com has to say Black Friday is popular as a shopping day for a combination of reasons. As the first day after the last major holiday before Christmas it marks the unofficial beginning of the Christmas season. Additionally, many employers give their employees the day off as part of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, increasing the potential number of shoppers. In order to take advantage of this, virtually all retailers in the country, big and small, offer various sales. Recent years have seen retailers extend beyond normal hours in order to maintain an edge, or to simply keep up with the competition.”
