Sold out to the sale!

Its monsoon and the sale time is here. Since I already spent big bucks yesterday I thought I would jot down some important do’s and don’s while shopping in the sale. The very thought of sale shopping is rejuvenating. Anything at the cost lower than the printed one is always welcome to anybody. Who does not like saving. Remember we gave you a list of to do’s while shopping for the black Friday sale? Refer all of that and brush-up your sale shopping skills. Along with that remember the following in order to help you avoid all that you don’t wan to end up buying!Sold out to the sale.

DO:

  • Stock up on winter collections as the weather next is appropriate. Woolens are always expensive to buy retail. So sale is the appropriate time to stock up on that.
  • Go buy all the footwear that you have your eyes on.
  • Expensive high-end bags are a great bargain if you go sale shopping. ( I am suffering from serious post shopping guilt in this department on my recent purchase ūüėõ ūüėõ )
  • Spending on denims during sale shopping is also a great idea. Even if the trends change a decent pair of denim wouldn’t really hurt.
  • Household decor items are also to look out for when you are shopping during the sale.
  • Furnishings like Bed-covers, Bath linens are again some important items that you could or you would wanna spend on.
  • ¬†Electronics items which you have been keeping on hold since a long time.

DON’T¬†:

  • Buy cosmetics as much tempting as it is. You cannot guarantee the expiry date. There is a possibility of products being very near to the expiry date.
  • Buy neon colors , since are so much in fashion these days it may tempt you. But they aren’t here to stay long. It may be a possibility that 3 months later you may regret buying so many neon’s after all!
  • Buy too many leather items. Remember its monsoon time after all.
  • Buy footwear which you plan to use this season and aren’t weather appropriate.
  • Forget to check your bill the percentage discount and any discrepancy where product guarantee is concerned.

Happy shopping.

Choose the right engagement “Ring”- Part 1 !

The¬†shopaholic¬†is back from theknotstory. Well it was the last month that a close one decided to get married! And who do you think would have hopped on the shopping responsibility?? No prizes for guessing mah’ name! Don‚Äôt even get to think what my name is! Okay aren’t we drifting from the title a wee bit?

The marriage is incomplete without its ring! The engagement and in some cases the wedding band! This is a lifelong investment! This ring remains with you till the grave they say. Choosing on your engagement ring can be really catchy. But if done with the utmost care and love makes your loved one happy! In my case I still regret not being able to have the ring I always wanted :() I sincerely hope my husband takes a hint n gets me that ring ūüėČ ;))

choosing your engagement ring.

I am personally always curious if a person chose his or her own ring or it was someone else s choice. This does not have to be a traumatizing experience. I can imagine how difficult it is for a guy to choose a pair of jeans leave alone a perfect engagement ring! But no fear theknotstory is here!  This entire process can be very easy; all you need to do is get your basics right and co-ordinate with your spouse!

You should know:

  1. ¬†What you will be asked for when you go shopping: ¬† When you go to the store the shop keeper might ask you to few things and if you appear clueless chances are he might totally fool you or you might get something which similar but not what you intended to by! ¬†So research thoroughly on few words¬†BAND, SETTING, GEMSTONE, 4 C’s¬†(cut, clarity, carat, color of the GEMSTONE), COST.¬†(We will be doing¬†separate¬†posts on each of the characteristic¬†)
  2. ¬†Your budget: ¬†This is the most important thing while shopping anything for that matter. If you know your budget things become easy for you and the salesperson. He knows what to show you and you have limited options to choose from avoiding excess confusion. Also avoiding any temptation to spend extra is always good during your wedding shopping. Because everything you shop for is of equal priority. Also refrain yourself from the very famous line “A man should save 3 months of his salary saved to buy the perfect engagement ring”.¬†All that matters is that you buy a ring in your budget that is loved by you to be fianc√©!
  3. Your fianc√©’s choice: ¬†The thought of surprising your spouse with the ring is a very tempting thought, but a very risky one at that. So better to know what he/she likes to avoid any kind of awkward situations. And always better to avoid any kind of exchanges, returns or adjustments. Always remember the ring stays with you always. So take him/her along with you or just be smart and gauge what they want. Trust me even they want to tell you what is his/her choice ūüėõ ūüėõ ¬†You could ask their friend to take them to a ring store just for fun and know exactly what they want. Just in case always check the return policy of the store if surprising is on your mind!
  4. The right Jeweler:  The ring, the diamond and the gold is something which the naked eye cannot tell if pure or not. So ask around friends to get an idea of good Jewel stores. Experimenting while buying wedding ring is not really a good idea. Also look for store suiting your budget to avoid disappointment over looking at stuff you cannot afford.  Online shopping on legitimate website like the Bluenile or Bluestone or Suratdiamond might be a good idea. It’s a great deal if you like a little less trying on for a reasonably good discount.  Also look for jewelers who custom design your engagement ring.
  5. The perfect engagement ring: The perfect engagement ring is the ring which suits the style, persona and taste of your fiancé. The ring should be big enough to pass through her work place and not too small that the visibility is an issue! Also check for the design that does not get stuck in the clothes or even scratches your face.
  6. Buy certified engagement ring: Always look for certified rings as the certification by your jeweler is really not reliable. So before you pull out your credit card ensure the certificate is right.

Last but not the least enjoy every bit of your wedding. For any assistance email us at theknotstory.com@gmail.com

All that Glitters is Gold ‚Äď Wedding Jewelry!!!

All that glitters is not gold..

Indian weddings, now mostly addressed as Big Fat Indian weddings, the term derived from the glamour & glitz seen in Indian weddings. Once you enter a wedding venue, the first thing which comes in front of you is the decor, and then comes the wedding dresses and then the glitter. In any wedding the most expensive part of course is the wedding jewelry.

Traditionally, Gold and silver is widely used in India as the wedding jewelry. ¬†Now a day‚Äôs diamond and platinum have conquered the bride’s heart as well as the jewelry market. Our modern North Indian brides prefer to wear jewels with latest designer work and expensive stones which match their bridal dress. As a person who got a chance to attend south and north Indian weddings, I have noticed that as you go towards south, gold is vastly used in wedding jewelry. The North Indian bride prefers designer diamond wedding ring and mangalsutras. While a South Indian bride still chooses their traditional Thali (mangalsutra) categorized upon their respective caste. They may purchase a set of diamond jewelry of latest fashion to be a part of the wedding jewelry, but the amount of gold they wear during the wedding will remain large as it depicts the status symbol of the family in the society.

The gold wedding jewelry purchased is considered as an asset, but during the wedding this purchase needs a lot of planning. Both Bride and Groom have to Shell out money for this purchase including what parents intend to gift you. Bride‚Äôs family has to do the major purchase though. Indian jewelry is always known for its unique and artistic design and that’s the reason why it‚Äôs famous worldwide. Earlier we used to wear jewelry from head to toe, as time passed by the traditional style of wearing all these jewels has become rare and now jewelry is used mostly during the weddings.

Believe it or not! The bride in south India wears up to 3 kg gold during the wedding :O :O . However this gold is considered as an asset gifted by her parents to make her future safe and secured.

Below are few traditional gold jewels worn by our bride as a part of their wedding jewelry:

The Bengali brides wears theirs traditional jewelry like nath, paati haar, taaira, tikli, choker, kaan baala, chur etc. whereas the Tamil and Telugu brides wear Oddiyanam, maanamaalai, vanki, jhiki, mattals etc. The Malayali brides wear a lot of gold jewelry during the wedding. Some of them are kaasumaala, maangamaala, poothali, nagapadathali, Jhimki, thoda and lot more. In the other parts of India gold jewels are comparatively less used during weddings. The gold is used along with diamond, platinum and other expensive stones.

Watch out for more details about traditional Indian wedding jewelry in our coming blogs ūüôā

Theknotstory tip: Always purchase gold from an authorized jeweler and also check for BIS 916 Hallmark which is the symbol of purity. Some jewelers give an option where you can pay a certain amount and book jewels for that day’s price and later purchase it paying full amount. So be on a look out for the low price days and book you gold  for the wedding jewelry!

Happy Shopping,

South Indian Brides and Silk Sarees!!

We told you a lot about the Lehengas and the Ghagras and the north Indian weddings. Time to travel to the south! So here’s bringing information about what is worn by Bride in South Indian weddings.

silk sarees and draping ¬†¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†Let me tell you guys that in South India, weddings simplicity rules! The main focus in the South Indian wedding is on the wedding dress. Unlike other parts of India, where brides flaunt their lehengas in South Indian weddings you can see a large variety of Silk Sarees or “Pattu” Sarees. The silk comes from the cocoon of the silk worm and requires a great deal of handling and processing before it becomes your wedding dress. This makes it one of the most expensive fibers also.

It is a tradition to wear silk sarees as your wedding dress in south Indian weddings. The price of these sarees varies from 1000 INR to lakhs depending on the quality and the amount of silk used in the saree. In any south Indian wedding, the bride needs to wear a number of sarees during various rituals apart from the main wedding saree.

In some parts of south India like Karnataka and Maharashtra the bride wears a Nauvari silk saree along with green glass bangles with traditional gold during the wedding ceremony, whereas in Kerala ivory n gold combination is considered auspicious. In Tamil Nadu the saree is draped in a very different manner (Madirasi style). Whatever the color combination or style is, the quality of a bridal silk saree is excellent with sarees woven from the excellent quality of silk. Kanchipuram silks and Mysore silks two world-renowned names in this business.

The North Indian culture & style have influenced the south Indian weddings too. Unlike earlier times, modern south Indian brides prefer designer wedding sarees, lehengas, cholis, salwars etc during their pre and post marriage functions like engagements, haldi , receptions etc. In fact some places they have introduced baraat (well with all entertainment)!

Theknotstory tip:

How to identify pure silk saree:

Take a few threads from the wrap and weft of the saree and burn them. If a very tiny ash ball is left behind which smells like burnt hair, its pure silk.

So, happy Wedding shopping ūüôā

Breaking news : Madhuri’s Ghagra !!

“TV pe breaking news haaye re mera ghagra haaye

Baghdad se leke Delhi via Agra”

(For non-indian readers link to the song on youtube : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7IS8yw3NV60)

Madhuris ghagra14

Madhuri’s New item song takes my heart away. She’s gorgeous and her dance mar jawa ūüėõ I am so keen on meeting her and asking her about the secret to looking like that in that age. Okay I know I am diverting myself entirely from the topic but then its Madhuri dixit you know !! ūüėõ

Now let me tell you the connection of this item number (dance based song in indian movies ) and our wedding blog. Common I am talking about ghagras (lehengas)!! Let me tell you people this song is like a treasure hunt reward if you are about to get married. So many beautiful ghagras and a variety of color combinations and net and sequin lehengas. The background dancers boast of different and offbeat color combos in the borders and the lehenga, with a simple and awesome done duppata. If not getting the same lehenga/ghagra you sure learn what colors are in trend and what you can mix up to get the latest looks. What is unique is no dancer repeats  a color combination. So suit your taste and get ideas!!!  P.S My favorite is the golden one Madhuri wears! Manish Malhotra has always been my favourite with the bling !!

Designer Wedding Cards!

Dear readers give it up to our guest blog writer today!!  Mr.knowitall :P. Its a first blog by him.

“Okay people this is my first blog so expect a lot of re-edits and additions all the time ūüėõ ¬†(it would be done before publishing though). This is¬†targeting¬†the audience looking out for wedding cards, by that I mean hardbound wedding cards. In on our blog posts we did tell you about e-invites and¬†Facebook¬†invites and our take on that would follow through. But this is all about hard bound physical cards .

These days since money is really not a consideration to spend on weddings people have become very focused about the quality of cards they send out to their friends and family. In early days the cards would be as low as 5 Rs. to 20 Rs. But welcome to the 21st century! So its designer card all the way. Eventually the range of cards have now shifted to 100 Rs. to 5000 Rs. (depending on how much lighter you want you pocket to be). The cards with boxes built-in to add sweets or chocolates are my personal Favorite. They give a neat royal finish to the whole concept of designer stuff.

Image

Like the¬†shopaholic¬†mentioned a few blogs back we were doing a wedding of a near and dear one, we ended up getting the card for that wedding¬†designed from the¬†famous ¬†“Parampara wedding cards” in ¬†Delhi. You can find some great samples on the website too. Remaining details on their website .Go get in touch with them or write to us if you need help for any designers around the country.

Now what makes a good wedding card? ¬†Look it through the brides eyes, the color and the design of the bridal lehenga and card could be in sync with each other. Also to keep yourself in budget you can get two type of cards in the same lot per say a set of 500 Rs. cards for friends and distant relatives and may be 5000 Rs. card for the special relatives. (in¬†India¬†special¬†cards¬†can be given to the groom’s side of family)

And ask a groom what he would like I think it really comes down to marrying the girl and¬†listening¬†to her ūüėõ ¬†(and he has no other choice too) ūüėČ

Before I end this blog make sure you get that unique out of the box design for your wedding card from your favorite manufacturer to send across to your in-laws , (like a wooden box with carvings and sweets inside) .It would just make your pocket lighter by 5000 Rs. per card. And We still have cards which cost 5 Rs. to 10 Rs. which you can get in sadar bazaar in Delhi in multiple designs.Image

So happy card hunting!!Write to us if any doubts.¬†“
